James Proctor’s Varsity Soccer team (6-0-1) is deep and talented and they continue to roll through the early part of their schedule. Back-to-back shutout wins over St. Paul’s School (3-0) and Wilbraham & Monson Academy (6-0) has the team poised for Wednesday’s match at the Loomis-Chaffee School. Our cross country schedule has toughened up a bit and our girls’ varsity team under 1st year head coach Ms. Pine has met the challenge with fine results. In their only mid-week race on the fall calendar, the team captured 1st place in the Marianapolis Invitational sneaking by Suffield Academy as WA placed 5 runners in the top 16 of the 44 runners who raced! Coco Arcand ’19 and Gabby Gavala ’20 were the two top runners for WA in both events.

Football ran into a buzz saw on Saturday evening as the Suffield Tigers ran away with an impressive victory over the hometown team before a spirited crowd at Morse Field. An electrifying opening drive and subsequent long touchdown catch and run by Devante Reid ’18 had the Hilltoppers in the driver’s seat early on; however, the Tigers depth and size eventually wore down WA. The team looks to regroup and will prepare for Saturday’s home contest (Gaskill Football Field) with Class A rival Deerfield Academy. Game time is 3:30 pm.
Despite two goals from senior Anisha Hill the WA Girls Varsity Soccer team dropped a hard fought 3-2 decision to Thayer Academy. Thayer struck for two quick goals mid-way through the 2nd half and held on to earn the win. Another stiff test is on the docket on Wednesday as the Hilltoppers (2-2) host Choate Rosemary Hall before traveling to NMH on Saturday for another Class A match-up.
Three players scored two goals apiece as the Field Hockey team (3-2) raced past Cheshire Academy on Wednesday afternoon. Natasha Savage, Alexis Cagan, and Grace McShea led the 2nd half assault propelling the Hilltoppers past Cheshire. It was a quiet week for the team with just one contest but the pace will pick up this week with a Wednesday contest against Montrose and a back-to- back weekend series with Dana Hall (away) and Wilbraham & Monson (home).
WA Volleyball has played well in spots but not consistently well enough to capture wins in the early stages of the season. Wilbraham & Monson captured a straight set win over the Hilltoppers on Wednesday and the team fell to the Pomfret School (2-0) and Cushing Academy (2-1) in Saturday’s tri-meet at Pomfret. The team travels for their 3rd consecutive road match on Wednesday as they travel to Suffield prior to returning home on Saturday for a return match with Wilbraham & Monson.
JV Football battled gamely against Doherty High School on Wednesday but came up on the short end in the game that was played in extreme heat at Gaskill Field.
JV Volleyball has been on a nice run of late registering impressive wins over Wilbraham & Monson (Wednesday) and Cushing Academy on Saturday. The later match went right down to the wire as the Hilltoppers rallied from an early game deficit to pull out an exciting 27-25 win.
JV Boys Soccer played well in both loses during the week which included setbacks to St. Paul’s (3-0) and Marianapolis Prep (5-3). Raham Giahi scored two goals in Saturday’s contest! On the girls’ JV side, a late goal from the top of the box sent Thayer home with a well-earned 3-2 win over WA.
