Weekly Athletics Update — January 6, 2023

  • Girls’ Varsity basketball seems to have found their collective stride as they rolled past both Marianapolis Prep and the Hoosac School last week. Junior forward, Cam Rust poured in 24 points and grabbed a team high 15 rebounds in the 60-50 win over Marianapolis. Kailee McDonald ’24 added 21 points and recent St. Francis, NY commit, Alexandra Eldredge ’23 scored 10 on the afternoon. Saturday’s win over Hoosac saw 3 Hilltoppers score in double-digits as the hometown team was never pushed in this contest.

  • The JV girls’ basketball team continue their outstanding season as they registered their 7th consecutive win pushing past both Suffield Academy and Marianapolis Prep. Ally Bianco hit 4 3-pointers in the 1stquarter propelling the Hilltoppers to a big, early lead as they rolled to victory.

  • The boys’ 3rd team rolled to their 8th straight win as they handled the St. Mark’s School in a home/away weekly series. Scoring balance and a solid defense have been the calling card for the 3rds squad.

  • Boys’ varsity hoops and BCA were heading towards halftime in a close contest when the lights
went out in Rhode Island, causing their match to be suspended in the National Prep School Invitational. Earlier in the week, WA rode the hot hand of senior forward and Stonehill commit, Todd Brogna (25 points) as it ran past the Winchendon School on Wednesday. The team looks ahead to a Wednesday home match up against Exeter on Wednesday afternoon here on Rowe Court.

  • Girls’ ice hockey had a terrific win at St. Mark’s on Wednesday (4-3 OT victory) and then came up on the short end of a 2-1 overtime contest with the Governor’s Academy. The Rivers School will provide the opposition on Wednesday with a 4 pm game scheduled at the WIC.

  • Boys’ hockey dropped a pair of league contests to NYA and Portsmouth Abbey and a non-league contest to NMH as well. The team travels to the Pingree School for a Monday afternoon make-up contest, scheduled for a 5 pm start.

  • Boys’ Varsity 2 basketball squeezed a tight, winnable contest on Wednesday against St. Thomas More School (46-41 loss) around a pair of lopsided contests (loses to Cushing and the Gann School) as they look for some consistency on both ends of the floor. Exeter will come to Worcester on Wednesday for a 3:00 pm contest on Rowe Court.

  • Frigid conditions cancelled Friday’s CMSL race at Mt. Wachusett and Varsity swim had a week to train as they gear up for the New England Championships in three weeks.
