WMA Tops WA

Worcester dropped a road contest to league rival & defending champion Wilbraham & Monson on Saturday night.

After a hot start by Wilbraham, WA clawed their way back into the game.  Facing early foul trouble, WA received big contributions from junior guard Kayvaun Mulready (Worcester, MA), post-graduate guard Jake Shapiro (Los Angeles, CA) & Zach Harvey-Seutcheu (Geneva, SWI).  Junior wing TJ Power (Shrewsbury, MA) nailed three 3-pointers in the first half, as well, all contributing to a WA rally and only a 38-35 deficit with four Hilltoppers starters with multiple fouls.  WA hit six triples in the first half.

The second half was a back and forth battle.  Senior guard Dan Becil (New York, NY) drilled two big 3-pointers, and Power continued to find driving lanes to get to the basket.  Wilbraham, however, pulled away toward the end with tough defense and emerged with a 81-71 victory.

Power lead the Hilltoppers with 21 points.  Junior guard Tre Norman (Boston, MA) scored 18 points, while Mulready & Becil added 12 & 11, respectively.

WA falls to 15-7 overall and 10-4 in NEPSAC Class AA.  Worcester will be at home for four straight games as the season winds down, beginning with a matchup with longtime rival St. Andrew's School on Wednesday at 5pm on Rowe Court.
