WA Storms Back To Take League Contest On The Road

Down 28-11 early in the first half, Worcester rallied to cut the deficit to 7 at the half, and gradually worked their way back in the game before seizing control in overtime.

The defensive intensity picked up for the Hilltoppers halfway through the first half.  Junior guard Tre Norman (Boston, MA) carried the load offensively with 13 first-half points, while junior forward Todd Brogna (Southborough, MA) was able to carry the load from the FT line with 4 makes from the charity stripe.  Junior guard Zach Harvey-Seutcheu (Geneva, SWI) gave WA a big boost defensively off the bench.

The second half brought new life to WA, as they slowly crawled back in it with the scoring coming from the junior class:  forward TJ Power (Shrewsbury, MA) & guard Kayvaun Mulready (Worcester, MA) starting getting in the paint and finishing through contact.  A big 3-pointer by post-grad guard Jake Shapiro (Los Angeles, CA) cut the deficit to a single point with under two minutes to play, then Mulready tied it with a layup.  A big 3-pointer by KUA tied it with ten seconds remaining, and the two NEPSAC Class AA teams went to overtime.

A 3-pointer by senior guard Daniel Becil (New York, NY) on the first possession put the Hilltoppers up for good, as they defeated KUA, 79-72.

Norman lead all scorers with 27 points and grabbed 8 rebounds.  Power recorded a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds.  Mulready scored 14 points, while Becil chipped in 11.

Worcester moves to 12-4 overall and 8-2 in NEPSAC Class AA.

We will be back on the road on Monday, 1/31, at new AA member St. George's School in Middletown, RI, for a 5:30pm tip.  Only vaccinated individuals are allowed on St. George's campus.
