Worcester Tops Bradford Christian To Win The Blackburn

Worcester defeated fellow NEPSAC Class AA member Bradford Christian Academy on Sunday afternoon to claim the Thomas Blackburn Tournament title by a score of 88-80.

Bradford Christian got off to a hot start, quickly building a double digit lead.  But WA crawled back with their defense, including several steals by the backcourt trio of Dan Becil (New York, NY), Kayvaun Mulready (Worcester, MA) & Tre Norman (Boston, MA) leading to easy baskets.  Junior wing TJ Power (Shrewsbury, MA) paced WA in scoring in the first half with 18 points as WA took a 43-40 lead into the half.

The hot shooting of Becil highlighted the second half.  The senior guard hit five 3-pointers over the final 18 minutes on some great finds by his teammates.  WA lead the whole half and, thanks to some key defensive stops & rebounding, outlasted BCA for a 88-80 win.

With six 3-pointers in all, Becil lead all scorers with 29 points.  Norman scored 23, while Power netted 22.

Power walked away with the Tournament MVP, while Becil, Mulready & Norman all took shared a spot on the All-Tournament Team.

Worcester moves to 4-2 overall and 3-0 in NEPSAC Class AA.  The Hilltoppers will host league rival Lawrence Academy on Wednesday at 5:30pm.
