Worcester Tops Bradford Christian To Win The Blackburn
Worcester defeated fellow NEPSAC Class AA member Bradford Christian Academy on Sunday afternoon to claim the Thomas Blackburn Tournament title by a score of 88-80.
Bradford Christian got off to a hot start, quickly building a double digit lead. But WA crawled back with their defense, including several steals by the backcourt trio of Dan Becil (New York, NY), Kayvaun Mulready (Worcester, MA) & Tre Norman (Boston, MA) leading to easy baskets. Junior wing TJ Power (Shrewsbury, MA) paced WA in scoring in the first half with 18 points as WA took a 43-40 lead into the half.
The hot shooting of Becil highlighted the second half. The senior guard hit five 3-pointers over the final 18 minutes on some great finds by his teammates. WA lead the whole half and, thanks to some key defensive stops & rebounding, outlasted BCA for a 88-80 win.
With six 3-pointers in all, Becil lead all scorers with 29 points. Norman scored 23, while Power netted 22.
Power walked away with the Tournament MVP, while Becil, Mulready & Norman all took shared a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
Worcester moves to 4-2 overall and 3-0 in NEPSAC Class AA. The Hilltoppers will host league rival Lawrence Academy on Wednesday at 5:30pm.
