WA On To Blackburn Championship

In the first round of the Thomas Blackburn Tournament, Worcester Academy defeated visiting league rival Proctor Academy on Saturday afternoon on Rowe Court by a score of 89-46.

Defense turned to offense for WA throughout the first half, as their defensive pressure lead to easy baskets in transition.  Junior guard Kayvaun Mulready (Worcester, MA) lead WA with 16 first-half points, including a buzzer-beating corner 3-pointer on a great find from fellow junior guard Tre Norman (Boston, MA).  WA took a 46-22 lead into the locker room.

A balanced scoring attack paced the Hilltoppers throughout the game, as 11 players scored in the win.  Mulready lead the way with 23 points, followed by Norman's 16.  Junior forward TJ Power (Shrewsbury, MA) scored 13 points, while senior sniper Dan Becil (New York, NY) chipped in 12.

The victory sends the Hilltoppers to the championship game of the Blackburn Tournament. They will host fellow league rival Bradford Christian Academy, who defeated Kimball Union Academy earlier in the day.  Tip-off is scheduled for 4pm on Rowe Court on Sunday afternoon.
