WA 2 NMH 1

Yesterday WAGVS earned a big 2-1 Class A win against a talented NMH team. NMH's talented attack had the Hilltoppers under a lot of pressure in the first 15 minutes of the game. After that, the Hilltoppers settled down and began to control the possession and create chances for themselves. Sophomore midfielder Kelli Buckley stepped up and hit a nice shot to give the Hilltoppers a 1-0 lead going into the half. NMH continued to threaten, but the back line of junior Haley Fenlon, freshman Kelsie Wandyes, senior Mitra Asdigha, and junior Carlin Stewart held up strong. Junior GK Sam Scott made several huge saves throughout the game and ended with 7 in total. The Hilltoppers continued to apply pressure and used their combination play to finally break through again, when Lily LaGrassa buried the eventual game winner to put the Hilltoppers up 2-0 late in the second half. With 2 minutes left, the Hilltoppers committed a foul in the box and NMH converted the penalty kick to bring the score to 2-1. The Hilltoppers held on in the final two minutes to secure the victory.
