It was a record-breaking week of sorts in Track & Field as senior speedster Noah Burke smashed the 200M record with a time of 22.34 in a meet at NMH. Noah also posted a 1st place in the 100m as the boys team lost a close meet, 79-66 to a deep, talented NMH team. Junior Amir Miller continued his dominance in the throwing events winning all three events including a PR in both the shot and the discuss. Emerging freshman, Daryan McDonald threw the Javelin further than any of his contemporaries over the past 10 years to add quality-scoring points for the WA team.

On the girls side of the ledger, Julia Kelleher had herself quite a day capturing the Track Athlete of the Week winning the 300m low hurdles, grabbing a 2nd in the 100m high hurdles and a 3rd in the Pole Vault. Julia completed her stellar performance as the anchor on the 1600m-relay team. On the “field” side, Hannah Lowe was a standout in two events--the Javelin and the Discus--while Katrina Gangi inches ever so close to the school record in the horizontal jumps. The girls also came up just short, losing for the 1st time in 2015, 75-62.

Dana Forsberg’s Baseball team remained on top of the CNEPBL winning three out of five contests during the week but going 3-1 in league play with victories over Cushing, Deerfield and Andover (lone league defeat in opener of Saturday double header). Strong pitching performances by senior Gus Culpo and junior Morgan McSweeney and timely hitting from juniors John Crimmin and Devin Fitman as well as sophomores Mariano Ricciardi and Cam Santos led the way for the Hilltoppers.

Coach Wayne Bolden’s Softball team had the bats swinging in a victory over Deerfield but it was the pitching performance of senior Melina Economos that was the talk of the day as the senior hurler pitched a perfect game. What a performance!

The improved weather saw our tennis teams out competing as the boys team despite losing the 1st two singles matches bounced back and registered a nice 5-3 win at the Williams School and followed that up with an impressive whitewash of Wilbraham & Monson Academy.

On the girls side, a sweep of the singles events propelled the team to a 4-3 victory over Wilbraham & Monson.

The Varsity Boys Lacrosse team only played one contest last week but it resulted in a resounding win at St. Thomas More (Colchester, CT) and hopefully one that will boost the team through the stretch run.

For the Varsity Girls Lacrosse team, Alivia Roy ’17 scored four goals (3rd time this season she has put up these numbers) and Shelia Gadbois ’18 poured in three more in an 8-8 tie at Morse Field with Beaver Country Day School. In a tight, well-played road contest the girls came up just a goal short (9-8) at Portsmouth Abbey. The JV team pulled together for their 1st contest of the spring and played well despite falling 8-6.

Coach Jamie Sullivan’s JV Softball team scored 40 runs in two games but came out on the short end of a 21-20 home loss to Milton Academy. This came on the heels of an 18-10 victory over Noble and Greenough.

Pat O’Donnell’s JV Baseball nine continued to roll along with a convincing road win at Pomfret and a tie at home to an always tough Noble and Greenough squad.

The Golf team started their home season with a tough loss to NMH and in the coming weeks with additional practice and match competition they will look to turn some of their early season setbacks into victories. Junior Maddie Belden has been a consistent force for the team to date!
