2011-12 Boys' JV End The Season Pleased, Enthusiastic!

This year's team completed the season with a fine 8-3-2 record.  Our hallmarks were evident from the start; we were a team who by in large had the ability to score quickly and defend adroitly.  When we went into our games with a full roster, which was rare due to a rash of injuries and player absences related to other commitments, we proved to be second to none. On any given day, we were capable of beating any given team.  Our offense, with its explosive scoring potential, gave the opposition plenty to worry about.  Upfront our team featured first-rate speed and ball handling abilities in the likes of Le Quang (12 goals, 3 assists), Mike Yang (11 goals, 5 assists), Brian Lee (11 goals, 3 assists), and Dan Han (5 goals, 2 assists).  These players were electrifying to watch and caused plenty of problems for the opposition.   At midfield, we were rock bottom solid with Philip Eo (2 goals) leading the effort.  Eo, played a dogged and determined game, he covered a lot ground, and was a leader on the field.  On numerous occasions, opposing coaches and referees noted his hustle.  Eo was supported by strong cast at midfield in Nick St Laurent (1 goal, 2 assists), Dan Baldwin (1 goal), Zach Sadlier (2 goals, 1 assist), Matt Wolf, Alejandro Gamboa Torre (2 goals, 2 assists), Jack Gao.  Defensively, we connected well.  Newcomer Mattihas Hengstler (1 assist) at the stopper position demonstrated an uncanny ability to gum up the middle for the opposition.  Hengstler, who grew up playing soccer in Hamburg, Germany, was in the right place at the right time and who worked very well with our other deep back, Jacob Bui. It was a rare moment when players got by Bui.  Throughout the season Bui demonstrated a kind of quiet fortitude and confidence that allowed the coaches to sleep well at night.  When Bui needed a break, the team was blessed to have Aaron Kline come on.  Kline, only a 9th grader, proved to be a most reliable defender, and we look forward to his return next year.    On the defensive wings, we were blessed to have Sam Fiorillo, certainly one of our unsung stalwarts who never complained, never criticized, and who was as dependable as the sun rising.  The other wing full featured an athlete if there ever was one in Troy Hansen (1 goal).  Big and strong and with fine speed, Hansen was capable of making long runs, proving to be very dangerous for the opposition.   In goal, we have to give high praise to another very fine young athlete in John Marculitus (1 assist) who kept us out of trouble time and time again.  Without question, our record would have been quite a different story were it not for the effort and dedication he gave us in goal.  Working hard in practice with Tom Arimony, Marculitus was a force to be reckoned with.  A player of his ilk comes along rarely, but for the JV's we have been fortunate in the past two years to have two outstanding goalies, the other being Robbie Hansen who helped lead the team to an undefeated season in 2010 .  We thank both goalies immensely for their service to the team.  In addition, the JV starters received capable play as well as enthusiastic support from Victor Kim, Tom Kessler, Yessen Rakhimbekov, Nick Bernier and our fantastic and very knowledgeable player managers Mash Pham, and Steve Bae as well our two other managers of Annie Kim and Whitney Park. The team would like to thank all of the parents who came to watch us play and give support as well as the entire athletic department for their work in making our season a success.
