Weekly Athletics Update
- A celebratory note on two fronts to begin our update as we recognize a pair of milestones reached over the past two weeks as Cameron Rust ’24 joins the 1,000-point club here at WA, and Connor Dozois ’24 records his 100th career point as a Hilltopper. Congratulations to both!
- Central Mass Ski League Races # 7 and # 8 are in the books from this past weekend for our Ski team and outstanding performances were turned in by Harrison Martel (a 4th and a 3rd place) on the boys’ side and by Mia Harris and Kayzie Salmon on the girls’ ledger. The depth of our girls’ squad has the team in 3rd place as they head into the final weeks of the CMSL season.
- 3rds Basketball continues to roll as they pushed past St. Mark’s in back-to-back contests during the week. The team has won 8 consecutive contests and have not lost a game after dropping their 1st two road contests of the year. They will host St. Andrew’s on Wednesday at 4:00 pm.
- Girls’ Varsity Basketball closed on a 28-7 run to secure a road win at Marianapolis Prep (56-45) on Wednesday with Elyse MacDonough (17) and Saige Youngberg (13) leading the way but came up short on Saturday in a return engagement with the Hoosac School in New York. Three important games are in the books in the week ahead for the Hilltoppers.
- Boys’ Varsity Basketball wore down league rival, Winchendon School on Wednesday with three double-digit scorers leading the way. Jake Blackburn ’23 (22), Kayvaun Mulready ’24 (19) and Ryan Sullivan ’25 (14) in the 76-65 victory. On Friday, the Hilltoppers fell to BCA in the NPSI in Providence, RI. The Hilltoppers travel to Exeter on Wednesday, New Hampton on Friday and Wilbraham on Saturday.
- Connor Dozois registered his 100th career point in a big Holt League Road win at North Yarmouth Academy on Saturday for Boys’ hockey. The week started on a tough note as Portsmouth Abbey despite being outshot, came away from the Worcester Ice Center with a 3-0 victory.
- Girls’ Ice Hockey fell to St. Mark’s School by a 5-1 count on Wednesday, then lost at Austin Prep by a 4-2 score Friday afternoon, and then bounced back with a terrific 4-3 OT win at the Hoosac School on Saturday. The lone contest in the week ahead has WA traveling to face off with the Rivers School Wednesday afternoon, 4:45 pm.
- V2 hoops came up against an older, more experienced St. Thomas More club in Connecticut on Wednesday and fell by a 67-42 score despite a double-double from Kyle Kevaney ’27 (15/15) and a 10-point, 8 rebound effort from Ben Nwosu ’26. The young Hilltoppers will look to rebound on Wednesday when they travel to New Hampshire to play PEA at 5:00 pm.
- Junior Varsity Girls’ Basketball continues to show signs of improvement in games this past week with Marianapolis Prep and here on Rowe Court on Saturday against NMH. Solei Banks ’27 continues her fine play.
- MS Boys’ Basketball recorded home/away wins over the Applewild School with a balanced attack.
- MS Girls’ Basketball dropped a competitive game to a St. Peter Central Catholic team who exhibited a speedy backcourt and good front court size that neutralized the effort and spirit of our MS group.
- MS Swim registered another impressive performance as they defeated the Moses Brown team in Providence, RI by a 53-34 score.
Around the Rim:
David Ball ’03 and Michelle Boland ’05 will be our 2024 Varsity Club Award Recipients. Both were outstanding 3-sport athletes during their time on the hilltop and will be feted Thursday evening, April 18th here on campus.
