Weekly Athletics Update

In a shortened week due to the Martin Luther King holiday, WA teams filled up the remainder of the calendar with a multitude of contests.
 
  • Our Girls’ Ice Hockey team managed to play three contests and came away winning a pair and losing the final game of the week to a strong New Hampton team. The week began with an offensive output that saw multiple scorers light up the red light in a convincing win over NMH. Natalie Spaeth ’27 earned her 1st career win on Friday eve as the Hilltoppers prevailed by a 2-1 count. Lauren Moran ’26 and Emma Abysalh ’24 registered goals for the host team who struggled to find the back of the net in a shutout lost to New Hampton on Saturday afternoon.
 
  • Boys’ Ice Hockey rode a pair of late shorthanded goals from Captain Connor Dozois and raced past host Pomfret by a 6-3 score. Holt Conference foe, NYA turned the tide on the Hilltoppers on Saturday afternoon as a pair of late 3rd period goals spelled the difference for the Panthers.
 
  • Despite a near triple double from James Jones ‘24, Boys Basketball dropped the back end of their 2-game week with a tough 4-point loss at Cheshire Academy. Mid-week, the host Hilltoppers rode an impressive performance from Chris Leman (18 points) and pulled away late in the contest to beat Wilbraham & Monson.
 
  • Junior Elyse MacDonough led with 19 points, followed by senior leaders, Cam Rust (17) and Kaille McDonald (11) but the host Seawolves hung on for a 66-61 win at Tabor on Wednesday afternoon. The team has a mid-winter lull in their schedule before they finish the final leg of the regular season on Friday, January 26 with a key homecourt matchup with Dexter-Southfield. 
 
  • WA Swim had a tri-meet at the Wheeler School on Saturday and posted the following results: Boys lost to Wheeler, 30-64 and to Dexter-Southfield, 43-47. The girls’ defeated Dexter-Southfield (60-32), but fell to Wheeler 42-51.
 
  • Varsity 2 Boys’ Basketball dropped a pair of competitive games, dropping a contest at Cushing (58-39) on Friday, and then lost a double-digit encounter to Wilbraham & Monson on Saturday. Frosh Kyle Keaveney poured in a game high 17 points at Cushing and Aekem Singh (14) and Aadarsh Yalamanchili (10) led the scoring parade at Wilbraham & Monson.
 
  • Varsity Ski Team results were yet to be posted from their Friday evening CMSL race.

  • 3rds Basketball continues to roll as they comfortably pushed past Austin Prep, 46-29. Wesley Stromme ’28 dropped in a career-best 29 points on the afternoon. 
 
  • Middle School Boys’ Basketball ran off their 3rd consecutive racing past the Fay School by a 36-19 margin while the Girls’ MS team opened their slate with a loss to Fay.
