MUSICAL CELEBRATES COLE PORTER

Worcester Academy will mark the centennial of the graduation of Cole Porter with a production of the classic musical, "Anything Goes," Feb. 20-22.

Porter, an iconic American composer and arguably the Academy's most celebrated alumnus, graduated from Worcester Academy in 1909.  He was valedictorian.  It was at Worcester Academy, he said, that he learned the fundamentals of songwriting from the headmaster, Dr. Daniel W. Abercrombie.

"Anything Goes" is one of the most frequently revived musicals from the 1930s.  Featuring music and lyrics by Cole Porter, this farce takes place on an ocean-liner between London and New York.  A cast of memorable characters supports the hopes and heartaches of "Billy Crocker" and "Hope Harcourt."

Presented by the Worcester Academy Music and Theater Arts programs, performances are scheduled for Friday, Feb. 20, and Saturday, Feb. 21, at 8 p.m.; and Sunday, Feb. 22, at 2 p.m. All shows will be in the Hervey S. Ross Auditorium, Warner Theater.
