WA Over CA, 79-59

Traveling to Cheshire Academy on Friday night, Worcester Academy lead wire-to-wire for a big road victory.

After a back-and-forth first few minutes, WA went on a 17-2 run to take an early 28-10 lead.  Junior forward Mitch Doherty (Acton, MA) & sophomore forward Judson Martindale (Sudbury, MA) combined for 14 of the Hilltoppers first 16 points.  The visitors were able to turn Cheshire turnovers into easy baskets, especially in transition via sophomore point guard Quest Harris (Lowell, MA), junior forward Matt Corey (Londonderry, NH) and junior guard Jordan McAllister (Newburgh, NY).  WA went into halftime with a 45-25 lead with Martindale leading the attack with 12 points.

After a Cheshire run to begin the half, three straight triples from Doherty, McAllister & junior guard Paul Durkee (Shrewsbury, MA) put the game out of reach.  Worcester lead for double digits the rest of the way and cruised to a 79-59 road win.

Worcester put five players in double figures.  Corey lead the charge with 14 points.  McAllister scored 13 points, while Doherty & Martindale each netted 12.  Harris finished with 11 points & 8 assists.  Durkee also dished out 8 assists, as WA registered a season-high in that category.

Worcester improves to 8-12, including 7-8 in NEPSAC Class AA.  The Hilltoppers will be back in action on Rowe Court on Wednesday at 4pm vs. league rival St. Andrew's School.  Our game at Wilbraham & Monson Academy on Saturday, 2/10, is postponed, and will be rescheduled before the end of the season.
