Varsity Club, Championships, and Recognition

Weekly Athletics Update—January 9, 2023

The two-week holiday respite is in the rear-view mirror and our teams are getting reacclimated to both their respective training regimens and game day competitions. The past week was light in terms of contests but that will ramp up in the weeks ahead as the Winter season continues.

  • Girls’ Ice hockey posted a pair of 2-0 shoutout wins with a pair of impressive road victories over NMH on Wednesday and the Middlesex School on Saturday. The team is off to a flying start (8-2-1) as it looks ahead to a big week with contests against Exeter and Portsmouth Abbey.

  • The boys’ hockey team travelled to the Lawrenceville School over the weekend and dropped a pair of contests. On Friday, the host school tacked a 7-3 setback on the Hilltoppers and Princeton Day School eked out a 5-3 triumph in Saturday’s consolation finale. Williston Northampton will provide the opposition on Wednesday as the Hilltoppers will look to get back on track. The week ends on Saturday with a Holt Conference road game at Kents Hill in Maine.

  • Boys’ basketball continues to impress with their play and Sunday’s AA home victory over Cheshire (77-59) pushed their overall record to 10-1. Declan Ryan ’23 was impressive with his post play and the trio of TJ Power, Kayvaun Mulready, and Tre Norman were steady throughout. Three contests will keep the team focused in the week ahead starting with a trip to Phillips Andover on Wednesday afternoon.

  • Girls’ basketball split a pair of games during the week, dropping a 68-64 decision at the Rivers School on Friday despite a 31-point outburst from senior guard, Oluchi Okananwa. Saturday’s road contest was decided early on as the Hilltoppers were too much for the home team.  Senior guard, Alexandra Eldridge scored a season high 24 points in the victory. The team travels to Loomis-Chaffee on Wednesday for a 4:00 pm contest.

  • The girls’ JV basketball team continues their fine season with a 40-26 win on Saturday in Deerfield.

  • Varsity 2 basketball dropped a 53-43 decision at home on Saturday afternoon despite a 14-point effort from Brendan Roy ’23. Robert Perniak ’25 chipped in with 13 points and the Hilltoppers will look to get back in the win column on Wednesday afternoon, hosting the St. Andrew’s School at 4:00 pm.

  • The 3rds basketball team ran their record to a perfect 4-0 with a nice game win on Saturday over the Pomfret School.

  • Varsity swim team and varsity ski will both resume competitions in the upcoming week.
