Weekly Athletics Update—April 4, 2022

                                    Weekly Athletics Update—April 4, 2022

Spring has finally arrived, and Worcester Academy teams are gearing up for a successful season. We welcome four new head coaches to our team, including:
  • Zackary Gardner – Head Coach Varsity Crew
  • Crystal Coonan – Head Coach Varsity Girls’ Lacrosse
  • Scott Moody – Head Coach Varsity Golf
  • Barry Coonan – Head Coach Varsity Track & Field

Our varsity baseball team is off to a superb start and pre-season prognostications with this group seem accurate. Coach McNamara’s final year at the helm should be a good one as he and his staff look to mold this talented bunch. The Central New England Prep Baseball League has several strong teams as usual but the Hilltoppers pitching depth, field play and hitting ability should make them a team to be reckoned with this season.
  • Jimmy Railsback ’22 and Gabe Pitts ’22 led the hitting parade and TJ Power hurled four shutout innings as WA emerged with an opening shutout win over BB&N
  • On Saturday, the bats stayed hot in a doubleheader sweep over St. Mark’s School as Cameron Papetti ’23 excelled at the plate (.833 BA for the week) and Max Marchetti ’23 hurled 4 scoreless innings to propel the host Hilltoppers.
Softball opened their ’22 season with a solid win over St. George’s School on Saturday at the New Balance Softball Field. Arie Erlich ’26 got the opening day start for the Hilltoppers and was effective in posting 14 strikeouts on the afternoon. The 11-hit attack fashioned an early lead that the home team never relinquished.

Around the Rim:
