                                                Weekly Athletics Update—February 28, 2022

Our boys’ hockey team captured the Holt Conference Championship over the weekend to cap off a tremendous season. A semi-final win on Saturday over NYA (5-2) set the stage for a Sunday showdown with the #2 seed, Portsmouth Abbey. Jamison Alicandro ’22 put the Hilltoppers on the board with a 1st period goal (game was deadlocked after 1st period) and Dominic Silvestri ’22 scored the game winner as the Hilltoppers captured their 2nd Holt Conference Championship in the past 5 years. It was a fitting end to the season as the team came together over the final two months of the season in posting a 13-1-1 record to finish the year with an overall mark of 17-6-1. Congratulations to our coaching staff and team for a job well done!

  • Boys’ varsity basketball grabbed a # 2 seed in the NEPSAC Class AA Championships this week and will host St. George’s School (Newport, RI) on Wednesday at 5:00 pm. The Hilltoppers capped off a superb season (20-7 overall) with wins over Winchendon, Cushing and Tabor during the week as junior guard, Tre Norman continues to pace the offense.  Worcester will look to avenge an early season loss to St. George’s in RI as they try to advance to Saturday’s semi-final round.

  • Varsity swim has been dutifully practicing and preparing for the NEPSAC D II Championships which will take place at the Upper Valley Aquatics Facility in White River, Junction, VT. The all-day meet on Saturday, March 5 will start at 9:00 a.m.

  • Girls’ varsity basketball drew the #6 seed and travels to Nobles on Wednesday to take on the #3 seed with a 4:00 p.m. tip-off scheduled. The Hilltoppers own a double-digit win over Nobles in a contest played here on Rowe Court in January. Worcester split two contests in the final week of the regular season, pushing past BCA on Wednesday before falling to Thayer in Braintree on Saturday afternoon. The season ledger now stands at 14-8.

  • Varsity girls’ ice hockey was able to play only one of their final two road contests (Millbrook game was canceled due to snow) and that saw the home team, Canterbury School slip by WA by a 3-2 count.

  • Varsity 2 basketball finished a very respectable 9-7 overall as they too split their final two games. The team rallied for a 4-point win at home over Cushing on Wednesday (Senior Day) and lost a heartbreaker on a 3-pointer at the buzzer at NMH on Saturday.

  • Our 3rds basketball team owns the best overall Winter record (12-1) and concluded the year with impressive wins over Cushing and NMH. Nice work by coaches Garcia and Snyder and kudos to the team for their inspired play throughout the year!

  • Kudos to Coach Silva and to Coach Forsberg and all team members of our JV girls’ basketball roster who improved tremendously during the year and had a satisfying 10-point win at Thayer to conclude the season.
