                    Weekly Athletics Update—February 7,2 022

-Boys’ basketball had a busy week and ran their overall record to 13-5 with a pair of impressive wins. Although the week started with a tough 63-59 road loss to St. George’s School (Tre Norman 25 points), the Hilltoppers bounced back in great fashion with a pair of solid performances. Tre Norman ’23 and TJ Power ’23 led the way in a tidy 76-62 victory over Winchendon and Dan Becil (17 points on 4 3-pointers) paved the way for a nice win over Class AAA power, South Kent School, by a 62-49 score.

-Girls’ basketball traveled to Marianapolis Prep for a key Class AA contest on Wednesday and registered an impressive 55-43 win. Cameron Rust ’23 scored 19 points and three other Hilltoppers scored in double-digits as the Hilltoppers ran their overall record to 10-5. The team hosts NMH on Wednesday here on Rowe Court with the goal of adding to their current three game winning streak.

-Boys’ varsity hockey team continues their fine play and is in 1st place in the Holt Conference as we head into the final three weeks of play. The team is on a 7-game tear and has been on a goal scoring spree during this unbeaten streak. The Hilltoppers will travel to Portsmouth Abbey (2nd place in league) on Wednesday, a week to the day after posting a 6-3 home ice win over PA.

-Swim team competed against a strong Williston cub on Wednesday and despite a strong showing came up a bit short. Improved times are perhaps the best barometer for progress at this stage of the season, and WA continues to post impressive numbers in this regard. Olivia Bull ’23 (200 free), Alex Arpin ’22 (50/100 free) and Donovan Sappet ’24 (100 Breaststroke) all took home 1st place in their respective races. The Winsor School will visit WA on Wednesday afternoon.

-In their lone contest of the storm-shortened week, Girls’ ice hockey fell behind early and dropped a 5-2 contest to the St. Mark’s School. The team travels to the Rivers School on Wednesday afternoon for a 4:00 pm contest.

-Varsity 2 basketball got out to an early lead and coasted to a nice win over Marianapolis Prep on Monday. The team had a week to prepare for their next contest against BCA in Worcester with a tip off scheduled for 5:30 pm on Monday, February 7.

-Our 3rds basketball team put together another fine outing as they defeated St. Mark’s in Southborough by a 55-22 margin. Balanced scoring and a tenacious defense have been the key of late as the 3rds captured their third consecutive win.

-Junior varsity girls’ basketball team won back-to-back games for the 1st time this season with a nice come from behind 33-28 victory over Suffield Academy. They will host Marianapolis Prep on Wednesday as they seek a 3rd consecutive win.
-Middle School basketball split a pair of contests defeating Fay School (37-22) before dropping a close contest to Applewild on the road.
