Weekly Athletics Update—March 2, 2021

As we head towards a well-anticipated spring break we are poised to conclude our winter season. Despite a few setbacks we have collectively demonstrated our ability to safely and effectively rollout programs to our student-athletes and families. We appreciate the efforts of all, including athletes, coaches, athletic trainers, Health Services and our athletic staff here in Daniels Gymnasium. We were pleased for those teams who were able to compete and play contests, but equally happy for those teams who were able to train together and to have some positive social interaction once again with teammates. Even through the adaptations and modifications of training and competing, it was very satisfying to see our athletes flying around once again and enjoying the sports they love to play!

  • We successfully completed a season of downhill ski racing at Mount Wachusett and individual Worcester Academy racers recognized included Olivia Cyr, Kayzie Salmon and Edward Jiao while our girls team placed 3rd overall in the CMSL standings.

  • Our girls basketball team completed an outstanding season, albeit a brief one as they raced past Williston on Friday evening.

  • Boys basketball split a series of weekend contests winning at home in OT on Friday and dropping Saturday’s finale at Williston.

  • Swim team competed in their 3rd virtual meet of the season with an energized group supporting one another and will conclude their campaign this week with a final Virtual meet against NMH.

Around the Rim:

Both varsity hockey teams and our JV ice hockey team are hoping to return to action on Saturday against Pingree.

Games are also tentatively set for our 3rds basketball team and a “sub-varsity” level contest with the Pingree School on Saturday.

Congratulations to our senior winter athletes for their tremendous work!

Tuesday, March 30 is our 1st day for official practice with our spring programs. Tryout dates with coaching information will be posted next week.

Enjoy the break!
