WA Launches The R.E.A.L. Initiative & Details DEI Priorities

In back-to-back messages to the community, WA shared diversity, equity, and inclusion priorities for the Academy and Jim Pietro, WA board president, announced the launch of the Resilience, Equity, Affirmation, and Leadership Initiative (R.E.A.L.).

 

In a letter to the WA community yesterday, Ron Cino, head of school, and Bonnie Walker, interim director of equity and inclusion, detailed the Academy's DEI priorities going forward—and asked key questions of the community in order to learn, contribute, and move ahead with WA's efforts to combat racism.

 

This morning, Jim Pietro sent a letter to the WA community committing a $100,000 donation of seed money to launch the R.E.A.L. Initiative at WA. The money will be used to start a program focused on Resilience, Equity, Affirmation and Leadership to benefit all WA students. This money can be used for speakers, training, teacher recruitment and education around these four themes.
