End of Year Athletics Update

In our final communication of the year, all of us in Athletics want to extend a sincere thanks and heartfelt congratulation to our student-athletes and in particular to our graduating seniors, Class of 2020. So too do we extend our appreciation and thanks to our outstanding corps of coaches, administrators, and support staff who have sorely missed the spring season and the joys that typically accompany this fun-filled period. There are silver linings in every dark cloud and once again we have seen the goodness that is Worcester Academy as faculty, staff, coaches, students and alums have come together to offer support, encouragement and hope to our community in this most challenging of times. Accomplishments in the world of athletics don’t always have to be measured through the lens of winning or losing, or through individual or team accomplishments played out in a competitive environment. Rather, over these last months we have learned to lean on each other and to collectively push past the disappointment of a lost season knowing that our indomitable spirit and our sense of community, while tested, will emerge stronger than ever.

We celebrate our Spring captains’ and salute them for the work they have done and for the great things they are about to do as they move towards graduation and their next challenge.

Canaan Severin ’12 a former three sport star here at Worcester Academy, a University of Virginia Football captain and former NFL player with the Pittsburgh Steelers may have forecast a link for our great Class of 2020 with these words:

“There’s nothing like a bond when you do hard things together”

We salute our 2020 Captains, our Year End Athletic Award recipients and our 2020 Robert Thorn Team of the Year.
