Weekly Athletics Update

                                                Weekly Athletics Update

We’ll start the week in review with a loud shout out to Donald “Dee” Rowe ’47 who celebrated his 91st birthday on Monday. Coach remains very active in his work at UCONN and always stays connected to the Academy. Happy birthday, Dee!

  • Girls Varsity basketball seems to have hit their stride rattling off three impressive AA wins during the week. A stirring 58-55 comeback win at home over the Rivers School started the week and the steady hands of Bella Nascimento, Kyla Jones and Adara Groman propelled the Hilltoppers to quality wins over the St. Andrew’s School and Loomis-Chaffee. The team looks to reverse an early season setback to Bradford Christian School in a Monday matinee contest.

  • Boys Varsity basketball split their two road contests with a workman like 78-60 win at Proctor before stumbling in the Hoop Hall Classic on Sunday to a talented, balanced Perikomen School from Pennsylvania. Judson Martindale ’20 and Mike Rabinovich ’20 led the scoring parade in the win over Proctor and Josh Ogundele registered a double-double (16 points/ 11 rebounds) in the 75-71 loss in Springfield. The team looks to bounced back on Wednesday with a AA contest against Wilbraham & Monson.

  • Congratulations to WA wrestlers Harry Li ’21 and Michael Berberian ’21 who wrestled well in securing multiple wins in Wednesday’s match at the Pomfret School and Saturday’s meet at Williston Northampton.

  • Boys’ ice hockey enjoyed a quiet week with just a single contest – a home loss to Williston – as they were able to get some quality practice in to fine tune their approach for the stretch run. The team travels to Union College on Monday to face off against the Hoosac School in the start of a three game week!

  • Varsity 2 boys’ basketball dropped two road contests falling to STM on Monday in Colchester, Ct. and again in Rhode Island on Wednesday to the St. Andrew’s School. The team travels to the MacDuffie School on Monday, hoping to avenge an early season setback.

  • Girls’ ice hockey enjoyed a productive week (2-1) securing a home win over PEA (5-3) and splitting a pair of road contests including a 3-1 win at Portsmouth Abbey. The Taft School withstood a late 3rd period goal by the Hilltoppers to tie the score and scored the eventual game winner towards the end of regulation in posting a 2-1 victory. The road travel continues for the Hilltoppers on Wednesday as they play in Newport, RI against the St. George’s School.

  • JV girls’ basketball dropped a pair of contests to the Rectory School and Loomis-Chaffee and will look to rebound on Wednesday with a game at Marianapolis Prep.

  • JV boys’ basketball hit the iron of their schedule and came out on the short end of three games during the week dropping contest to Roxbury Latin, Rectory and Deerfield Academy. The team travels to Cushing on Saturday.

  • Freshman basketball came away with a nice win over the St. Andrew’s School on Saturday as Wes Larson (14) and Krish Pahari (12) rolled in double digits in the 39-32 win.
