WA Heads to Blackburn Final
Worcester Academy defeated fellow NEPSAC Class AA member Kimball Union Academy in the semifinals of the 19th annual Thomas Blackburn Tournament on Saturday night. The 81-76 sends WA to the boys final tomorrow at 4pm vs. South Kent School.
Sophomore point guard Dasonte Bowen (Boston, MA) got the scoring started early by drilling three 3-pointers in the opening minutes. Senior wing & Holy Cross commit Judson Martindale (Sudbury, MA) continued the trend of scoring from beyond the arc with two of his own. A late 3-pointer in the final seconds of the half by freshman Kayvaun Mulready (Worcester, MA) vaulted the home team ahead 45-39 going into the break.
Senior point guard Quest Harris (Lowell, MA) layed the ball in and got fouled for the clincher late, as WA held on for a 81-76 win.
Martindale lead all scorers with 28 points, while Bowen netted 25.
