Weekly Athletics Update

                                                  Weekly Athletic Update

The countdown is on for the completion of the fall season! The days are shorter and certainly temperatures have dropped as the calendar has flipped to November. No surprise that our BV soccer team is once again poised to grab a high seed and a home field contest in the quarter-final round on Wednesday, November 13. The Hilltoppers squeezed a 3-2 road win out on Wednesday at Phillips Andover (senior Jose Salos had 2 scores) then kicked their offense into high gear on Saturday racing past the Tilton School by a 7-0 count. Salisbury School will host WA on Wednesday with a 4:00 p.m. kickoff scheduled and then close down the regular season with an 11:00 a.m. game at Cushing Academy on Saturday.

  • Despite a grand performance by senior running back, Broox Bolden who exploded for two long TD runs, the Hilltoppers fell to Phillips Andover (33-20) on Saturday afternoon at the Groton School. Andover raced out to a 33-7 halftime advantage and despite a pair of 2nd half scores, WA could not overcome the early deficit. WA will travel to Connecticut on Saturday as they conclude their season with a 1st ever contest against the Capital Prep Harbor School.

  • Cross Country teams finally got some home cooking hosting a quad meet at the Emmons course on Saturday. It was the last regular season race and the final cross country race for our seniors who did not disappoint. Jack Adiletta and Chris Maclean were again the top 2 finishers on the boys’ side (senior Nick Manz a very respectable time of 20:45 as well) while senior Gabby Gavala continued her fine season with a 2nd place overall finish for the girls’ who took 3rd place on the day. Both teams will travel to Noble & Greenough this Saturday for the D 2 New England Cross Country Championships.

  • It is a tough time of year to cram four contests into a week but that was the task at hand for our Field Hockey team. Early travel dates at St. George’s (3-3 tie) and Tabor (Loss) had the team geared up for Friday’s home contest against the Middlesex School and in a very even contest the visitors from Concord emerged with a 3-1 win. Saturday’s big win at home against Portsmouth Abbey will give the team an added edge as they scramble for a final play-off spot in the final week.

  • Volleyball also had a busy week playing three high level contests and coming away with a productive 2-1 slate. A relatively easy win at Marianapolis on Wednesday and a tough home loss to a very strong Dana Hall School on Saturday were bookends for what may have been the top match of the Fall on Friday eve in Daniels gym. The home town team rallied in front of a partisan crowd to defeat the Middlesex School, 3-1 and now will turn their attention to their final matches of the season with road games at Lawrence and at Cushing.

  • Girls’ soccer kept their playoff hopes alive on Saturday with an impressive 2-1 road win over Phillips Exeter Academy. Katie Adiletta ’23 scored the 1st goal of the contest for the Hilltoppers and Kelli Buckley’s late score sealed the verdict for WA. The team concludes its regular season with a home Wednesday tilt against St. Mark’s before travelling to the Governor’s Academy on Saturday for their finale.

  • On the sub-varsity level, JV boys’ soccer fell 3-2 at St. John’s High School on Saturday morning while our JV Volleyball team dropped 2 contests to Middlesex and Dana Hall in and around a nice road win at Marianapolis Prep.
