Weekly Athletic Update, 10/15/2019

Katie Adiletta ’23 registered her 2nd game winning goal of the season with a late tally on the road pushing the Hilltoppers past Pomfret School, 1-0. On Saturday, the Hilltoppers cranked up their offense racing past Marianapolis Prep to earn their 3rd consecutive victory. Deerfield Academy will provide the opposition on Wednesday afternoon as the team attempts to get back into the NEPSAC playoff picture with an important Class A matchup.
  • Field Hockey squeaked by the Winsor School in Boston on Monday with an exciting 4-3 over-time win. Senior Alexis Cagan delivered a perfect pass to Lauren Potvin ’21 who punched in the winning goal providing the Hilltoppers with an important win. Saturday’s home tilt with Cushing was a tough one as the 7 game win streak was halted by a talented Penguin squad. The team will look to get back on track on Wednesday as they host Lawrence Academy at 3:30 pm at Morse Field.
  • Football fell behind early and never got untracked losing to Phillips Andover on Saturday. The injury bug continues to be a concern and with a bye week in the schedule we’re hoping to get a few healthy bodies back as we begin a finishing stretch of road contests to conclude the 2019 campaign.
  • Boys’ soccer ran their record to 9-1-1 as they ran past Phillips Exeter 2-0 on Thursday afternoon at Morse Field. It was the 6th consecutive victory for WA who will look to extend that streak on Wednesday with a 3:30 pm match-up against the Hotchkiss School.
  • Cross Country traveled to a wet, rugged course at Lawrence Academy on Saturday afternoon for a quad meet. The boys’ were once again led by Jack Adiletta (4th place finish), Chris Maclean (7th) and Nick Manz (8th) while Gabby Gavala was a bright spot on the girls’ side taking the top spot in that meet.
  • Pomfret defeated the WA Volleyball team for the 2nd time this season with a 3-1 win in Connecticut on Wednesday but the team bounced back in grand fashion on Saturday with a tidy 3-1 win over Cheshire Academy. In a very exciting match WA shared the ball, covered well for one another on the defensive end and hit some timely game winners to keep their opposition at bay. Kingswood-Oxford travels to Worcester on Wednesday for a 3:30 pm match.
  • JV volleyball saw their record even out at the .500 mark as they dropped matches to the Pomfret School (2-0) and to the Rectory School (2-1) in a 3rd set thriller that came down to the final serve.
  • Boys’ JV soccer had a productive week beating Wilbraham & Monson Academy on the road and the Rectory School (5-0) at Morse Field on Saturday. Emma Potus ’21 has found her scoring touch in the past two games helping to push the JV record to 5-2.
