Weekly Athletic Update, 11/19/2018

The Fall season came to an end yesterday afternoon at Morse Field as the Boys’ Soccer teams’ run to a championship was cut short by a talented Berkshire team. In a wildly entertaining contest the team showed great spirit and determination in pushing the defending Class A champs to the wire before eventually falling by a 3-1 count. The Hilltoppers earned a trip to the finals with a quarter-final 2-0 win over Exeter on Wednesday and a pulsating 2-1 OT win (on PK’s) in the semis over Loomis-Chaffee on Saturday afternoon. With an overall record of 15-2-4 the team once again solidified its position as one of the regions elite programs and under the direction of Coach James Proctor that trend will certainly continue moving forward. Congratulations to the team!
Our girls’ soccer team defeated Choate in a quarter-final contest on Wednesday by a 1-0 count to advance to the semi-final round of the Class A tournament. The team traveled to the # 1 seed Noble & Greenough on Saturday and fell by a 4-0 count. Under the direction of Coach Jen Marino, the group really came together as the year progressed and with a solid core of capable performers returning they will look to improve on a stellar 13-4-2 campaign next year. Congratulations to all!

The winter season has already kicked in as most of the US teams have held tryouts and these will continue when we return from Thanksgiving break. Our Middle School tryouts will begin as well on Monday, November 26.
  • Boys’ Varsity Basketball wasted no time in creating a stir as they participated in the invitation only National Showcase Tournament at Albertus Magnus College and came away with an impressive 88-80 win over Link Year Prep (Missouri). Senior Mitch Doherty (U-Albany recruit) poured in 26 points as 6 Hilltoppers scored in double figures to pave the way for an opening night win! The team will reconvene after break and prepare for another road test against Brimmer and May on Wednesday, November 28.
  • Our defending Class AA championship girls’ basketball team is currently in the Virgin Islands and will play on Wednesday as they tour the Island, give basketball clinics and provide community service to the Island residents still recovering from a 2018 hurricane. The team will open their regular season on Friday, November 30 as they host the Rivers School here on Rowe Court.
  • Both varsity hockey programs enjoyed a solid week of practice and each will benefit from scrimmages on Saturday against St. Mark’s School (Boys’) and the Hill School (Girls’). Boys’ open their regular season on Wednesday, November 28 at Middlesex while the Girls’ will host the Tilton School that afternoon at WIC.
  • Special thanks to Mrs. Berberian for her efforts in pulling together a nice schedule for our Junior hockey program. We pleased to provide this opportunity to our students and families as we embark on this 10-12 game schedule for the 2018-2019 season. The schedule is on our Athletic web page and home games this year will be played at Buffone rink.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!
