Weekly Athletic Update, 10/29/18

In a somewhat truncated week of play due to weather issues Varsity Football managed to cap the week off on Sunday with a solid two-way performance in a 27-13 win over Loomis-Chaffee School. Saturday’s “Nor’easter” forced cancellation of all outdoor activities so Sunday’s game was played at Morse Field under cloudy, cool but dry conditions. The game plan from the outset was to run the football and the trio of Kevon Darton ’19 (two rushing touchdowns), Asa Floyd ’20 (two rushing touchdowns) and Zach Magdis performed well from start to finish as the Hilltoppers captured their 2nd victory of the season. Phillips Andover will visit Gaskill Field on Saturday afternoon with a 3:00 pm contest scheduled, as the Hilltoppers honor their Seniors in the final game of the 2018 season.
  • On the soccer front both varsity teams settled for ties during their lone contests of the week with the boys’ rallying for a 1-1 draw with Deerfield and the girls’ a 2-2 tie with the Hotchkiss School. The girls’ team plays a Monday afternoon make-up game with Milton while the boys’ prepare for Wednesday’s showdown with Andover.
  • Both the Varsity and JV volleyball teams secured 3-0 victories at home on Wednesday against cross town rival, Bancroft. Saturday’s trip to Rivers saw both teams continuing their streak (3-0 wins) in defeating the Rivers School for the 2nd time during the 2018 campaign. Both teams are back in action on Monday as they host Lawrence Academy at 5:00 pm here at Daniels gymnasium.
  • Field Hockey bounced back from a tough road trip to Deerfield with an impressive 4-1 win over Pomfret School Friday evening at Morse Field. Claire McShea ’22 scored two goals and Olivia Valey stopped 11 shots as the Hilltoppers kept their tournament hopes alive with a big win. Tabor provides the opposition on Wednesday afternoon with a 3:00 pm contest scheduled for Morse Field.
  • JV boys’ soccer registered a 3-3 road tie with NMH and is off until next Wednesday when they will host the Marianapolis School.
