For over 175 years Worcester Academy has warmly and proudly welcomed students from all over the world. We embrace the rich diversity of thought, experience, and voice that our international students bring to our community. In fact, we’re exceptionally proud of the global awareness and international perspective that our international students bring to campus.
Worcester Academy students come from a vast variety of cultural backgrounds. Studying alongside day and boarding students from the United States, our International students comprise roughly 20% of our student body. Countries typically represented in our student body are: Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Ecuador, Germany, Italy, Jamaica, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Mexico, New Zealand, Russia, Scotland, Somaliland, South Korea, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine, Venezuela and Vietnam. When a student joins us from a country that is new to our community, we hang the flag of that student’s country in Adams Hall. Will you add your country’s flag to our tapestry?
From the moment you arrive on campus, you’ll be immersed in American culture, language and way of life. You’ll significantly strengthen your written and oral English language skills and we’ll make sure that, upon graduation, you’ll enroll at a competitive American college or university.
We recognize that for many international students, English is a second language. For those who need to improve their English proficiency, we offer EFL (English as a Foreign Language) courses, as well as history courses designed for non-native English speakers. The EFL program is designed to improve English language literacy and preparation to join regular classes in English and is offered at no additional charge.
Our International Student Advisor helps students smooth their transition into the Worcester Academy community, providing assistance with academics, immigration, student visas, and travel arrangements. International students are often welcomed into the homes of their fellow students during holidays and vacation breaks.
"The international student experience is a great way to expose all our students, domestic and international, to the kind of global community they will invariably be a part of when they graduate from Worcester Academy."
How it Works
As an immersive experience, you’ll live on campus seven days a week. You’ll experience rigorous academic weeks that will finish with fun, busy, and engaging weekends. Our Student Activities Director uses student input and knowledge of the area to plan activities on and off campus. These activities routinely include visits to area attractions, theatrical performances, shopping malls, and, of course, Boston – a short 40 miles away. You might occasionally leave campus to visit family or friends, but most of your weekends will be spent on and around campus forming new and enduring friendships with fellow students from around the world. The campus does close for academic breaks and vacations and, during those times, you’ll be expected to return home or participate in a local 'home-stay' opportunity.
