Weekly Athletic Update

The last week of the Spring season has arrived, and our teams are pushing towards the finish line. Senior days, honoring the soon to be 2024 graduates have taken place for many, and several programs will participate in league or NEPSAC championships. Certainly, this is an opportune time to thank our coaches, support staff and student-athletes for their work and commitment over the past couple of months. Best of luck to our graduating seniors and we trust the legacy you have left to our returning underclassman will serve them well in the ensuing years.

  • Varsity Baseball earned the #3 seed in the CNEPBL tournament and will host Cushing in a quarter-final match-up on Wednesday (possibly Tuesday with rain implications). The regular season ended with bookend wins on Friday and Saturday over Lawrence Academy and Cushing respectively. Dexter-Southfield pushed past the Hilltoppers by a 7-4 count on Wednesday to solidify the #2 seed and earn a 1st round bye.

  • Track & Field will take part in the NEPSAC Championships on Saturday at Williston-Northampton and we extend good luck to all the WA athletes who have qualified. The last regular season meet on Saturday – also held at Williston – saw the girls’ team go 1-3 with a win over Cushing and losses to WNA and St. Paul’s. Maryah Muldrow continued her fine season recording 18 points on the afternoon with wins in the Triple jump and 300 hurdles. Johann Innis-Grant was the lone WA competitor on the boys’ side to take home a 1st place finish (Hurdles) as the team went 2-2 with wins over Cushing and Eaglebrook and losses to WNH and St. Paul’s.

  • A battered WA Boys’ Lacrosse team, plagued by a series of injuries which has decimated their roster also had to take to the road this week in long trips to Millbrook and Albany Academy. Austin Prep visited Morse Field on Monday for a highly entertaining, well-played game, but the home-town team fell in a close contest.

  • On the girls’ side, both Pomfret and Beaver Country Day School came away with wins and the team will look to finish the season on a good note when they host the Winchendon School on Wednesday at Morse Field. Game time is 3:30 pm.

  • Tyler Hughes continues his fine play at the top of the Golf depth chart, but the Hilltoppers are still looking for that initial team win. The Pomfret match was interrupted after 7-holes by torrential downpour on Wednesday and Moses Brown collective effort proved too much on Thursday as WA fell by a 167-185 score.

  • Softball played 3 games during the week – a stretch on the pitching staff for sure – and lost to Kingswood on Monday and a pair of games at Cushing (6-3) and St. Paul’s on Saturday. The team travels to Deerfield on Monday, hosts the Brooks School on Wednesday and concludes the regular season on Friday with a rip to NMH.

  • Varsity  Boys’ Tennis lost a mid-week match due to the rain and fell in their lone match of the week at Suffield Academy. The team hosts Lawrence Academy on Monday at 4:45 pm.

  • Girls’ Tennis had a tidy 5-0 win at Gaskill Tennis on Friday over Newton Country Day School and then fell to Class A power, Andover, in straight sets on Saturday. An important week looms ahead for the team starting with a match at Lawrence Academy on Monday.
