Weekly Athletic Update

  • In one of the busiest weeks of the Spring season, all our teams were able to play multiple contests. In the biggest track meet of the season (at Wheeler) our girls’ team went 3-1 against Concord Academy, the host Wheeler, Pomfret, Newton Country Day School, and Bancroft. The boys’ won both relay events on the afternoon (2-2 overall) including the final event of the day which was an electric finale to a fun day. Multiple event points were secured on the boys’ side by Tyler Alexander, Austin Bombardo, Tyler Cook, Marco DiPlacido, and Cavan Gardner. The girls’ won both relays’ as well with the 4x400 team of Maryah Mudlrow, Zoe Chen, Ella Budzinksi, and Sarah Hall finishing with another PR and a victory in the meets final event.
 
  • Boys’ Lacrosse split a pair of contests during the week pushing past Beaver Country Day School on Monday and then falling at Winchendon on Wednesday. The week ahead has two long road trips as the team winds down their season.
 
  • Varsity Baseball won an important league contest on Saturday at Deerfield, slipped past the Winchendon School on Wednesday, and dropped another non-league game to the Rivers School on Monday. The play-off push is on as the Hilltoppers look for a high seed. Liam Daly (2 RBI’s) and James Anastasopoulos (an RBI single) got the visiting WA squad off and running at Deerfield and ace, Mav Rizy pitched 6+ strong innings in earning the win. Casey DeLorenzo closed the Winchendon game with 4 stellar innings of relief to secure a 7-6 win. 

  • Softball enjoyed a nice win over Lawrence Academy to start the week but then lost an 8-6 game at Austin Prep, and back-to-back road contests against Class A teams, Nobles and Andover. 
 
  • Golf is still searching for that elusive 1st win but play, and scores have steadily improved. They travel to Pomfret on Wednesday afternoon for a 3:00 pm match. 
 
  • Girls’ Lacrosse had a couple of contests canceled but managed to use the time to heal and practice a bit and things finally went their way as freshman Natalie Spaeth scored a game winning goal in the 2nd OT to secure an exciting road win at Ethel Walker School. 

  • Girls’ Tennis had a terrific Class B win on Thursday over a talented Cheshire Academy team by a 5-2 count. NMH powered past the Hilltoppers by a 7-2 count in Wednesday’s match. On the boys’ side, Lucas McCarthy put the finishing touches on what his coach described as a “match for the ages” as WA edged Portsmouth Abbey. Lucas won his tiebreaker and match clinching win with an impressive 8-4 win over his worthy opponent from PA.
