Fall 2020 Athletics Wrap-Up

Greetings from Worcester Academy. As we head down the home stretch towards the Thanksgiving break and with the conclusion of our Fall season this past weekend, I wanted to reflect back on this unique time and take the opportunity to express thanks to everyone who made this journey possible. We salute our families for exhibiting patience and understanding in working through this extremely difficult period, congratulate our student-athletes for their discipline and resolve and applaud our coaches for their creativity and commitment to their respective teams. If your passion is athletics and you are wired to compete and to grow through sport, these past eight months have been anything but pleasant. Nonetheless, we have witnessed enough positive things in the work of our athletes and in the commitment of their coaches to offer great hope and optimism moving forward. At the end of the day, one of the chief metrics in measuring team success or departmental-wide acclaim is the growth of leadership opportunities you provide to your athletes! The Covid pandemic gave us little choice as we were forced into dealing with an opponent with no history, no weaknesses and no recipe for preparation. Yet somehow, our athletes reclaimed their passion for their respective sports, as they bonded together with their coaches and one another and got back to playing and enjoying sport for the love of the game. In the face of all the challenges this virus presented our athletes stepped up, made sacrifices, learned to play the game with modifications and will, I’m certain, emerge stronger and more determined than ever to conquer the next challenge that awaits.

We offer congratulations to our Fall student-athletes and coaches for their work and for their genuine commitment to one another. There was no greater demonstration of this unique bond than what we witnessed on Senior day on Saturday as coaches and underclassmen came together to offer small gifts, words of encouragement and sincere thanks to our Class of 2021.
