Balanced Effort Leads WA Over LA

Worcester Academy defeated fellow NEPSAC Class AA rival Lawrence Academy, 75-64.

Lawrence pulled ahead by double digits early, but the scoring of point guards Quest Harris (Lowell, MA) & Dasonte Bowen (Boston, MA) propelled WA back in the game.  A finish & foul by sophomore guard Daniel Becil (New York, NY) and a fadeaway jumper as time expired by senior big & Holy Cross commit Michael Rabinovich (Hopkinton, MA) put the Hilltoppers up 31-24 heading into the half.

A burst of scoring by junior guard Jhamyl Fricas (Lawrence, MA) kept WA ahead in a mostly back-and-forth affair in the secon dhalf.  Senior wing & fellow Holy Cross commit Judson Martindale (Sudbury, MA) stuffed three big drives down when the Hilltoppers needed it.  Solid late defense by Fricas & fellow junior guard Leo Chaikin (South Hero, VT) highlighted a team win for Worcester.

One of five players in double figures, Fricas posted a career-high 17 points to lead WA in scoring. Rabinovich also netted a career-high with 16 points.  Martindale scored 12 points, while Bowen & Harris chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Worcester moves to 6-2 on the young season, including 6-0 in NEPSAC Class AA play.  They will conclude the 2019 portion of their schedule on Saturday afternoon, as they face Bradford Christian Academy at 2:45pm at the St. Andrew's Holiday Classic at St. Andrew's School in Barrington, RI.
