Our last Spring sport to begin their competitive slate finally got untracked on Saturday as our Varsity Crew raced at Lake Quinsigamond. On a wet, rainy, cold afternoon our boys’ 1st boat took a 6th place while our girls’ 1st grabbed a 3rd place finish. The team has been working hard with land workouts since late February and has had limited time on the water so even under tough conditions, it was satisfying to get out and race. WA Crew will race at home this coming Saturday at 1:00 pm.
In a rain shortened week girls’ tennis won their only match of the week pushing past Wilbraham & Monson by a 5-2 score. Ayesha Lobo and Fiona Price scored singles victories while the doubles pairing of Clarice Xu and Keri Pietro secured an important 3 set tie-breaker win.
On the boys’ side, the team took advantage of a mild day and traveled to Mitchell College to square off against the Williams School. The doubles pairings proved the difference on this afternoon as WA stormed back and outlasted Williams by a 4-3 count. Cushing Academy visits Gaskill tennis on Wednesday for a 4:00 pm match.
Despite an even par 36 recorded by golf captain, Julian Kates the hometown Hilltoppers dropped a 237-216 match to a strong, well balanced NMH squad.
Softball dropped both contests with a road loss at Suffield (6-4) and a home loss to Cushing in a slugfest, 18-7. The team travels to Choate on Wednesday afternoon for a 4:00 pm matchup.
Varsity baseball powered past Deerfield on Wednesday by a 10-2 count. Sean McCarthy and John Coughlin shared pitching duties on the afternoon and effectively kept Deerfield at bay, while the WA bats came alive with a 10 hit effort. Friday’s contest with Andover ended in a 3-3 deadlock and the game will pick up at that point on Tuesday afternoon when the teams meet to conclude their weekend series. Game time start at 4:00 pm.
Both lacrosse teams were limited to one contest each due to the weather. The boys’ dropped a road decision (16-5) to RI prep power Portsmouth Abbey while the girls team registered their 2nd win of the season against the Winchendon School, 16-10. Gracie Bruno (5 goals) and Annalise Monopoli (4 goals) joined senior forward Grace McShea top pace the offensive attack while Meg Buxton (6 saves) continued her steady play in foal.
JV baseball dropped a 7-6 road contest at Pomfret.
