Weekly Athletics Update

Softball bounced back from a road loss at Choate on Wednesday with a sterling come from behind victory over Williston-Northampton on Friday afternoon at New Balance. Arieanna Erlich hit a 2-run homer in the 6th to tie the score and Nicole Pelski hit a walk-off 2-run dinger in the 7th propelling the Hilltoppers to the big win. The Hilltoppers stand at 8-3 heading into the final three weeks of the season. 
 
  • WA Crew continues their impressive run with 2 1st place finishes in a Wednesday race on Lake Quinsigamond.

      On Saturday, Berwick Academy pushed across the finish line in 1st place but WA impressed with a strong showing as they swept past Bancroft and the Derryfield School.

  • Baseball trailed by a 5-2 count heading into the 5th inning against the Winchendon School on Wednesday but showed great resolve in pulling out a 1-run win. A similar comeback effort fell short on Friday afternoon as Dexter-Southfield emerged with an extra-inning 5-3 victory over the host Hilltoppers. 

  • Track & Field had a clean sweep over Bancroft, PCD and Cambridge School of Cambridge on Wednesday and battled with ISL powers Belmont Hill, Thayer, and Nobles in a quad match on Thayer on Saturday. On the girls side, senior Lacey Mbugua had a 4th in the 200m and a 5th in the 100m and bolstered the WA 4 X 100 with their 3rd place finish. Lio- Griffin Hall stepped up against some of the best competition in NE with a pair of 1st place showings in the Triple Jump and Long Jump. Sophomore Harrison Martel qualified for the NE Championship’s with a Personal Best in the 1500m race.

  • Girl’s Lacrosse pushed Wilbraham & Monson right to the final whistle – in fact beyond  the regulation into an OT period – before losing a heartbreaking goal contest. 

  • On the boy’s side, the week started with a pair of wins as multiple players contributed with goals in wins over the Wheeler School and at Lexington Christian Academy. The week concluded with a defeat at the hands of Wilbraham & Monson Academy on Saturday. 

  • Junior Tyler Hughes was the medalist for the Hilltoppers on Tuesday as the Golf team pushed past St Andrew’s School at the renowned Rhode Island Country Club in Barrington, RI. Senior Brendan Roy furnished an impressive 1 over par round at Whitinsville Golf Club on Thursday but Suffield Academy posted a 199-223 verdict. 

  • Boy’s Tennis enjoyed their finest week of the season with wins over Cushing Academy on Wednesday and Marianapolis Prep on Saturday. The team exhibited great resolve in pushing past both adversaries on the friendly confines of Gaskill Tennis. Andrey Muhkin ’23 again made tennis look easy with a compelling 8-3 triumph in singles. "Don" Omar Saber fought three match points down to overcome a tremendously strong adversary from Marianapolis, shining in a 9-7 victory that brought smiles to all who witnessed the riveting match.

  • Girl’s Tennis ran their overall slate to 5-2 with a 5-2 win over Wilbraham & Monson in their lone ,match of the week. 

  • JV Baseball dropped a 5-1 decision at Deerfield on Wednesday and bounced back in a big way with an exciting 10-9 win over Wilbrham & Monson on Friday.
