WA Upper School Wilderness Club Helps Rescue Man From Mountain

This past Memorial Day weekend, members of Worcester Academy’s Upper School Wilderness Club assisted Park Rangers at Monadnock State Park in Jaffrey, NH, in performing a rescue mission when a man fell and dislocated his knee more than half way up the mountain.

Due to the difficulty of terrain, Park Rangers had to move the injured hiker down the mountain by creating a so-called “caterpillar line” in which one group of rescuers passes the stretcher to another group that is directly in front. The first group then moves in front of the stretcher so that it can once again be passed along.

According to English faculty member and group advisor Charles Mull, some WA students also helped by clearing a closed trail in order to access a shorter route down the mountain.

“Well done Maya, Guppy, Anh, Kareem, Demi, Amir, Ines, Emil, Kelly, Pete, Una, and Alila.  As daylight was fading, you ‘Achieved the Honorable’ and helped get this guy out of the woods to safety,” Mr. Mull stated.
