WORCESTER ACADEMY SENIOR SAMUEL KLIPPEL was named Student Sports National Boys Soccer Player of the Week on Thursday. Sam, an Auckland, New Zealand native, was recognized for (among many other things!) scoring 25 goals in 18 matches and only failing to score in one game – a 0-0 tie with Phillips Academy Andover. He has a further 7 assists.

James Proctor, WA boys varsity head soccer coach, said Sam is a very talented player who “puts team first.”

“I'm sure Sam will credit his teammates, but certainly he deserved credit for an outstanding individual achievement,” Mr. Proctor said.

He noted that Sam was directed to WA by Simon Elliott – a former New Zealand national team player and professional soccer player (and friend and former teammate of Coach Proctor). In addition to soccer, Sam plays golf and intends to join the WA team next spring with a handicap index of 2.3.

Worcester Academy student athletes excel both on and off the field while embracing the Academy’s core values: honor, respect, community, personal growth, and challenge. The students learn to build camaraderie, develop strategies for competition, and gain valuable lessons about achieving goals through WA’s athletic program.

In fact, many alumni credit their athletic experience as having prepared them for success in college and later life.
