"Our Family" creator speaking April 27
Worcester Academy is host to the renowned photo exhibit In Our Family: Portraits of All Kinds of Families for a special four-week display in Walker Gallery. In Our Family is a visual representation of the broad definition taken when using the word "diversity."

With photographs by Gigi Kaeser and interviews edited by Peggy Gillespie and Rebekah Boyd, In Our Family, celebrates the diversity of family life in 21st century America, introducing the viewers to single-parent families, families living with physical or mental challenges, immigrant families, adoptive families, foster families, divorced families, gay- and lesbian-parented families, stepfamilies, multiracial families, multi-generational families, and many others in the family circle.

In Our Family highlights:

* That every family configuration should be appreciated and celebrated
* That there are happy and flourishing families of all types
* That children and adults can be hurt by stereotyping, prejudice, name-calling, bullying, and teasing
* The importance of actively challenging prejudice

Created by the award-winning Family Diversity Projects of Amherst, MA, In Our Family is on display in Worcester Academy's Walker Gallery until May 14. Parents, students, faculty, staff, and members of the greater Worcester community are invited to an evening presentation of the exhibit featuring creators Peggy Gillespie and Gigi Kaeser on Thursday, April 27, from 6:30 to 7:30p.m in Walker Gallery. The photo exhibit is appropriate for all ages.
