Residential Life Overview

A rich, fulfilling residential boarding life completes the Worcester Academy experience. Time and time again, Alumni of our residential program recall their Worcester Academy experience as a transformational period of their life - whether they were a boarding student here for 4 years or for a single postgraduate year. Developed, are core values and enduring relationships that inform their character and guide their actions in college and beyond.

Living on campus gives students a taste of the real world in a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment. Students in grades 9 through 12 have the option to live on campus.  Living on campus is a requirement for postgraduates.  About 184 boys and girls, one third of our high school, are boarding students at Worcester Academy full-time or as part of our unique five-day boarding program. There are students from in-state, across the country, and from 20 nations around the world.

Davol Hall is home to freshman and sophomore boys, while younger girls live in Stoddard Hall. Junior, senior, and postgraduate girls and boys typically live in Heydon and Dexter Halls respectively.  Students generally live two to a room and share common area facilities, including washrooms, a TV lounge, kitchen, and laundry facilities, with the rest of their dorm mates.

Boarding students also belong to smaller dorm "families" led by faculty "parents," who reside on campus - usually on the same floor as students. Residential faculty oversee evening study hall on school nights too. Once a week, the residential community gathers for Family Dinner in Adams.  Small family groups sit together to share a meal and discuss life.  Healthy and culturally diverse meals are enjoyed in Adams Hall, the common dining room where dozens of flags representing the nationality of students who have attended hang aloft.

The principal goal of the Residential Faculty is to provide the setting and guidance to foster inquisitive and dedicated college prep learning, while encouraging students to take full advantage of the opportunities offered by the Academy. With our school’s core values of Honor, Respect, Community, Personal Growth, and Challenge, students are expected to learn and live these values as part of residential life. Dormitory life also serves to foster lasting relationships.
WORCESTER ACADEMY® is a co-ed day and boarding school for grades 6 to 12 and postgraduates. Our urban setting, diverse community, and innovative curriculum provide each student with unique opportunities for self-discovery, academic achievement, and personal empowerment.
