Visual Arts

Ceramics . . . Architecture . . . New Art Media . . . 3-D Design . . . All of it begins with the basics of drawing. Although our visual art offerings are deep and thorough, we never neglect the basics. That’s why our curriculum begins with a year-long required Introduction to Studio Art, focusing on the elements and principles of design through drawing, painting, and sculpture.

You’ll research, study, and create across two airy, well equipped and naturally lit, studio spaces – one specializing in 2-D media and the other focused on 3-D design.

After exploring the basics, advanced classes abound. How about learning to throw a pot on one of our seven ceramics wheels? Perhaps you’d rather build your dream model tree house? Maybe you’d prefer to become a wiz at Adobe Photoshop? It’s all at your fingertips with Worcester Academy Visual Arts offerings.

Visual Arts Co-Curricular, Outreach, and "In-Reach"

  • Can’t get enough? Open Studio meets once a week during most semesters. You’ll interact with other artists and earn an activity credit for exploring what you love!
  • Our Artist-in-Residence Program brings master classes from experts far and wide. Most recently, Watercolorist Bill Breidenbach joined our studio for in-depth instruction.
  • Our Art-in-the-Park collaboration brought sculpture to the campus quad and a student workshop with the artist, Drew Goerlitz, sculptor and teacher at SUNY Plattsburgh, NY.
WORCESTER ACADEMY® is a co-ed day and boarding school for grades 6 to 12 and postgraduates. Our urban setting, diverse community, and innovative curriculum provide each student with unique opportunities for self-discovery, academic achievement, and personal empowerment.
