Weekly Athletic Update, 10/3/16
Junior Coco Arcand led a strong contingent of WA runners in the Marianapolis Prep Invitational. Coco placed 5th overall out of 159 runners but the depth of this team was evident as WA’s top 7 runners finished in the top 20% of this challenging field. On the boy’s side junior Shivam Sharma continues to emerge, witness his two top finishes for the home team in races this past week. Shivam finished 17th out of 244 runners as the boy’s team placed 5th out of 19 teams at Marianapolis and 2nd overall in Saturday’s 20-41 victory over Hyde, CT. Quite a week for both teams!
Shutouts were the order of the week for our Varsity Soccer teams as the boys ran past both Tabor Academy (3-0) and Wilbraham & Monson (6-0). Senior co-captain Ivan Sebuufu-Bazitya had two goals in the mid-week win over Tabor Academy. Gabby Diodatti registered a hat trick in Wednesday’s 7-0 win over Deerfield Academy and the team followed that win with an impressive shutout victory in the rain at Thayer on Saturday.
It was a “travel” week for the WA Field Hockey team and they came away with a split, winning at Cheshire Academy (6-1) before dropping a heartbreaker, 1-0 at NMH on Saturday. WA Volleyball took to the road as well for two contests dropping a three set match to a talented Wilbraham & Monson squad prior to squaring away with Cushing and Pomfret in Saturday’s tri-match at CA which resulted in a pair of 2-0 defeats.
Varsity Football travelled to Suffield Academy for a Saturday evening contest, fell behind by two scores and came up on the short end of a 21-14 contest. Suffield
capitalized on two big plays during their 1st two possessions to create enough separation from the visiting Hilltoppers to earn the victory.

Kampei Yachigo ’19 and Asa Floyd ’20 led a young JV football squad to an exciting 32-6 win over the JV squad from Doherty High School at Gaskill Field on Wednesday. Bob Thorn’s JV boy’s soccer team rode the game winning score from Nick Lennox ’18 in a 2-1 road win at Tabor on Wednesday while the JV volleyball squad squeaked by Wilbraham & Monson (2-1) on Wednesday before falling to Pomfret and CA on Saturday afternoon.
