WA Over St. Andrew's On Sunday Afternoon

Worcester Academy hosted fellow Class AA rival St. Andrew's School in a Sunday matinee on Rowe Court.  WA got off to a hot start and never looked back, cruising to a 93-71 win.

Post-graduate Tanner Johnson (Lexington, KY) got the Hilltopper going with 4 3-pointers in the first 6 minutes of the game.  St. Andrew's responsed with a 3 of their own each time, however, and the game remained close.  Forward James Wells (Waterville, VT) and big man Kevin Marfo (Bergenfield, NJ) both played strong first halves inside for WA, and they took a 57-43 lead into the locker room.  Johnson, who is committed to Bryant, had 18 first-half points, while Marfo, who is committed to George Washington, scored 12 and grabbed 9 rebounds.  Wells had 11 points.

The second half saw WA get off to a quick start again.  A 3-pointer by post-graduate forward Jesse Wims (Watertown, MA), who is committed to play at Redlands (CA) next season, and 3 straight 3's by Johnson helped maintain the Hilltopper lead, as they cruised to a 93-71 victory.

Johnson scored 33 points and was 9/13 from downtown.  In the past two home games, Johnson has 73 points and has drilled 20 3-pointers.  Wells contributed a season-high 19 points and 9 rebound against a tough St. Andrew's frontline.  Post-graduate point guard Nassir Barrino (Newark, NJ) scored 14 points and dished out 10 assists, while Marfo had 14 points and 16 rebounds.  As a team, Worcester Academy assisted on 20 of their 34 made field goals and grabbed 22 offensive rebounds as a team.

WA improves to 7-3 (5-3 NEPSAC Class AA).  They will travel to Proctor Academy on Wednesday afternoon.
