WA Tops LA Behind Johnson's 40 Points

Worcester Academy grabbed an early lead behind their Bryant-committed sniper and never looked back, cruising to a 72-55 victory over NEPSAC Class AA rival Lawrence Academy.

Junior forward Caden Dumas (Holden, MA) got the scoring started for Worcester after a layup off the opening tip.  The post-graduate guard/forward Tanner Johnson (Lexington, KY) took over.  He hit 10 3-pointers in the first half, burying many of them from well beyond the 3-point arc.  He lit up the gym every time he took a shot en route to his 33-point first half.  He outscored the whole Lawrence Academy team, as WA took a 47-23 lead into the locker room.

WA kept up the defensive pressure on Lawrence and cruised to a 72-55 victory.  Kevin Marfo (Bergenfield, NJ), a senior big man who is committed to play at George Washington University, had several thunderous dunks in the second half to pace the Hilltoppers.

Johnson finished with 40 points, the highest scoring output by a Hilltopper in quite some time.  Marfo collected another double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds.

The Hilltoppers move to 6-1 (4-1 in NEPSAC Class AA) on the young season.  WA will wrap up the 2015 calendar year with traveling down to St. Andrew's School in Barrington, RI to play in the St. Andrew's Holiday Classic.  They will play Masters School at noon on Saturday, 12/19.
