Weekly Athletic Update, 11/10/14

Ed Reilly
It seemed like it was only yesterday that we were welcoming back our athletes from their summer vacations to begin yet another Fall season. Seemingly, in the blink of an eye that season has quickly passed and we turn the page to the winter season and the months ahead! We all have our own measuring stick as to what constitute a successful season but fair to say that the final scoreboard is not the sole barometer in making this assessment. Our student-athletes and teams have all grown and hopefully matured in their understanding of the roles they play in creating a team dynamic and environment that is both fun and fulfilling. As is the case in every season, on every team the pace of growth and the correlation to wins will vary, some excelling at finding the winners circle, and some struggling to do so. Through it all the lessons of competing, of dealing with adversity, of sacrificing “personal” gain for team goals, of building and sustaining relationships with teammates and coaches, these traits and so many more are the essence of what defines a “winner”!

We’re grateful for the effort and the commitment of all our student-athletes, for the time and the care that our coaching staffs put into every practice and contest, for the dedication of our superb Sports Medicine staff, for the support of our Administrative team and for the work our field managers do in making our venues the very best the region has to offer! We will recognize our fall teams and our athletes on Tuesday night here on campus to celebrate their accomplishments, to tell their stories and to salute their efforts over the past 12 weeks.

Congratulations to all!

Our BV soccer team secured the #4 seed and will host #5 seed Phillips Exeter here at Morse Field, Wednesday afternoon, 2:00 pm start. Difficult to imagine how a 14-1-4 record only equates to a #4 seed, but it speaks volumes about the level of play in the Class A soccer landscape. Great work by the team and we wish them the very best in the Championship week ahead!

Multiple WA student-athletes will sign Letters-of-Intent (LOI) this week and we share their joy and celebrate their accomplishments
