Weekly Athletic Update, 10/27/14

The JV Boys Soccer team continued their tremendous season with a stunning 2-1 road win over NMH as Kyle Hackett registered both goals and goalie Mario Maldonado posted yet another shut out as the 7-0-2 Hilltoppers rolled on!

Our Boys Varsity Soccer team (11-1-3) played one of its best matches of the ’14 campaign as they shut out a talented NMH squad in Northfield, 3-0. The road weary Hilltoppers settled for a 1-1 tie as they ventured to an always-tough KUA on Saturday and they look forward to returning home for Wednesday’s match at New Balance with Andover.

Under the lights and in a drizzle throughout the game, our Girls Varsity Soccer team earned perhaps their most significant win over Hotchkiss School, 1-0 on Wednesday before falling to Milton Academy at New Balance over the weekend. The busy week started with a 1-1 tie against the Brooks School in heartbreaking fashion as the visitors from North Andover scored on a corner kick in the games final minute. The team travels to Tabor Academy on Wednesday to take on the Seawolves.

The JV volleyball team secured two nice wins during the week and continues their fine play of late despite dropping a close decision to cross town rival, the Bancroft School on Wednesday.

The varsity volleyball teams enjoyed some competitive “sets” over the course of the week but were stymied by both the Bancroft School and Lawrence Academy in their effort to break into the win column. Marianapolis Prep will visit Rowe Court on Wednesday as the team looks to finish the year in good fashion!

The Field Hockey team traveled to Deerfield on Wednesday, falling 5-1 then returned home on Saturday and dropped a 1-0 contest to the Pomfret School. Goals have been tough to come by for the team, but their spirit and level of performance continues to be positive.

The JV Girls Soccer team ran away from Marianapolis Prep on Friday afternoon at a cold and damp Gaskill Field prior to falling to a strong Milton Academy team, 4-1 on Saturday. Lexi Cooper knocked in four goals during the week to earn recognition as the US co-athlete of the week.

Finally, the x-country teams traveled to Williston on Saturday for the Shaler Invitational which brings together many of the premier teams throughout the region. It is a nice prelude to the x-country championships (Sunday, November 9th) and individual and team participants are challenged. Senior Meaghan Barry ran a PR loping off a full minute from her time earlier this fall at Williston, which placed her 7th overall in the meet!

Around the Rim
Just two weeks remain in the fall season and all US students are encouraged to note the tryout dates/times for winter sports, which will be posted in and around campus this week.
