SENIORS SIGN LETTERS OF INTENT
Wednesday, November 8, 2006

Two Worcester Academy student-athletes signed national letters of intent to attend  Division 1 college  in a special signing ceremony at Alumni House, Nov. 8.

The seniors, both standout basketball players, are Alicia Marculitis of Shrewsbury, who will attend Manhattan College, and Ilija Milutinovic of Serbia, who will attend Oregon State, both on full athletic scholarships.

"These are two great kids," said WA Director of Athletics Ed Reilly, who is also boys basketball coach.  "They understand the value of working hard, both in class and on the court.  They are terrific representatives of the Academy community."

Alicia Marculitis '07

Alicia Marculitis ’07, a three-year starter from Shrewsbury currently in her senior year, will attend Manhattan College. Over the past three years, she has been a member of two New England Championship basketball teams.

According to WA girls basketball coach Sherry Levin, Marculitis will continue to exhibit the same level of "hard work, dedication, and unselfish attitude" that earned her a Division I scholarship.

"She is one of the most talented post players in New England and I am confident she will make an impact at Manhattan," Levin said.

Marculitis, who set the single season mark for blocks with 46 and a career blocks total with 98, has accumulated 451 points and 250 rebounds over the last three years. She established her career high of 22 points, 11 for 12 from the field, in 2005.

"She made a tremendous impression on us from our first conversation to her official visit," said a Manhattan official.  "Everyone is excited ¬– players and staff – that she decided on Manhattan."

Ilija Milutinovic '07

"Ilija has been a very welcome addition to the Worcester Academy community," said Mr. Reilly, following Wednesday’s signing ceremony.

He said Milutinovic, a 6-foot, 10-inch forward from Nis, Serbia, has played extensively on the international scene. That experience, along with his versatility, skill, and size, has made him a very attractive prospect at the college level.

"The coaching staff at Oregon State recognized these characteristics at a camp here in the United States two summers ago," said Reilly.  "They did an excellent job with Ilija in the recruiting process."
