Bobby Barrett '06 played world caliber baseball last weekend, even as his Milton Legion was knocked from the World Series.

Barrett, who began classes at Arizona State University, has been enjoying some attention on the national stage recently. He and his teammates competed in the American Legion World Series in Veterans Memorial Stadium in Cedar Rapids, IO, which began Friday.

The Milton team was knocked out last night by team from Metairie, LA, which beat the Region 1 champions 10 - 4. Milton is the first Massachusetts team to go to the World Series in five years, and the first South Shore team to go since 1989.

Barrett, a catcher and former second-baseman, doubled to right-center and was chased home on a two-out double.

According to the The Patriot Ledger, Barrett, who lives in Milton, will tryout for the school hockey team and will be a walk-on tryout for the baseball team.

Also mentioned in the Patriot Ledger story was WA classmate and baseball player Tim Hulbert ’06, who also is enrolled at Arizona State University.

The Milton Legion finished the season  34 - 4.

Other teams playing in the American Legion World Series (a double elimination tournament) were Terre Haute, IN, Lawrence, KS, Lincoln, NB, Las Vegas, NV, Sumter, SC, and Midlothian, VA.
