Varsity Baseball
Peter Kostacopoulos, Coach
The Worcester Academy Varsity Baseball team opened the 2006 season in Fort Pierce, Florida with an 8-game schedule. Opponents included Germantown Academy, Montclair Kimberly Academy, Avon Old Farms and other prep schools from across the country. Playing 8 games in six days posed a significant challenge but a deep pitching staff and a roster of 22 players handled this challenge, returning home with a 6-2 record.
The 2006 batsmen have established the solid foundation necessary to challenge for the season-ending CNEBL Blackburn Tournament title. In the last three seasons, the Hilltoppers have come up a little short in their efforts of finishing the tournament with a win. The 2004 team finished league play with a 10-2 mark, the 2005 team with an 8-4 mark. Both league win totals were tops for their respective years. The 2006 seniors have a chance to improve on last year's seniors who posted a 25-15 league record over 3 years. This can be accomplished with leadership from the veteran players.
