Vocal
Chorus is the base upon which the Upper School vocal program is built. Members of the chorus receive instruction in singing technique, musicianship and ensemble performance - all in preparation for showcasing their talents during school concerts and other events. Students are also eligible for voice lessons.
The Academy Singers, our select vocal ensemble, is drawn from the chorus by audition and meets both during class time and extra-curricular time. Although chorus is designed as a two semester course, students may enroll for one semester with the director's approval.
Middle School chorus students are separated into boys and girls classes; they perform independently and are brought together to form the Middle School Singers.
Instrumental
The Instrumental Music Studies program at Worcester Academy is a dynamic, hands-on program that allows interested and motivated students at all levels of proficiency the opportunity to increase their knowledge and passion for music through its study, history and performance. Our philosophy instills the ideal that music is a shared experience to which each student contributes equally, and develops appreciation for each member of the performing ensemble, whether in the full 45-piece instrumental ensemble, which plays in the Hervey S. Ross '46 Auditorium, Warner Theater, or one of our smaller groups.
The only competition within the instrumental program is the challenge put forth to each student to seek and stretch the limits of their own musical expression. Our goal as music educators is to inspire, nurture and guide each student through their journey to becoming a competent musician. The skills, discipline and enjoyment resulting from the time spent in the Worcester Academy Instrumental Music Program will have a lasting effect for students as they proceed to college and beyond.
