Through both curricular and extracurricular offerings, the visual and performing arts are an extremely vital and visible part of Worcester Academy life. Students are involved in arts activities throughout the day in nearly every corner of the campus. A visitor to campus might encounter on a single tour students in an acting class rehearsing a scene in our Andes Theater...a student in our directing class checking on scenery in the Megaron...a group of studio art students sketching campus scenes that will become part of the portfolios presented for the Student Art Advanced Placement Examination...and a cellist or vocalist rehearsing for that evening's concert in Hervey Ross '46 Auditorium, Warner Theater.
Many academic courses are offered for the serious, aspiring musician, actor or studio artist. Beyond the classroom, students may audition for the Academy's Jazz Ensemble or for the Academy Singers, our a cappella choral group. Students' works of art are regularly on display in the Walker Gallery, as well as in our online arts media gallery. Any student who wishes to try his or her hand in a new artistic realm -- from theater to music or visual arts -- is both welcome and encouraged to do so.
