Weekly Athletic Update

The regular Winter Athletic season concluded over the weekend and several WA teams will now focus on NEPSAC Tournament action.  
 
  • Girls’ Varsity Basketball won three games during the week and stretched their unbeaten streak to 7 games (10 out of the last 11) as they prepare for the Class AA Tournament. Strong offense continues to propel the Hilltoppers as they pushed past the MacDuffie School on Wednesday, Winchendon of Friday, and at Thayer Academy Saturday afternoon. The week was punctuated by Senior night on Friday eve as the team and coaches saluted Class of ’24 seniors, Kailee McDonald and Cam Rust. Worcester concluded the regular season with a record of 19-5 and will travel to Dexter-Southfield as the # 5 seed on Wednesday afternoon for a quarter-final match-up. 
 
  • Boys’ Varsity Basketball heads into the upcoming AA Tournament on an uptick with wins in two :55) and at Tabor (60-58) on Saturday, sandwiched around a AA league loss to Cushing (67-59) on Wednesday have the Hilltoppers prepared for the opportunity to capture a 3rd consecutive title in the week ahead. WA (#5 seed) will travel to NMH (#4 seed) on Wednesday, 4:30 pm contest
 
  • 3rds Basketball capped off an outstanding season (15-2 overall) with a 54-52 win over NMH on Wednesday. After a closely contested 1st half the Hilltoppers surged ahead by double-digits only to have the visitors roar back in the final minutes to make it interesting. It was a fitting conclusion to a special year for the team and coaches! 
 
  • Varsity Swim has been preparing diligently for the Division II Swim Championships which will take place on Saturday, March 2 at the Upper Valley Aquatic Center in White River Junction. Good luck to the team!
 
  • Our Varsity Hockey teams concluded their respective seasons with League tournament action this past week. The girls’ team won a 1st round Vailancourt league contest on Wednesday as they rolled past NMH, but fell in the semi-finals to Austin Prep. Boys’ Varsity hockey lost in quarter-final Holt action by a 3-2 count at Berwick Academy. 
 
  • V2 Boys’ Basketball participated in their league tournament at Cushing Academy over the weekend. In the opening contest against NMH, the game came down to the final minute but the Huggers’ secured the win with a late 3-pointer to send WA into Saturday’s consolation contest. 
 
Around the Rim:
The Winter Athletic Banquet for athletes, coaches and staff will take place next Tuesday, March 5th at 6:00 pm in the Megaron. 
 
Athlete of the Week:
In an abbreviated week of action, we recognize and honor our senior Winter athletes and thank them for their collective contribution to their respective teams.
